From matter to materials: an alchemic transition

More than 500 designer met last October 12 at the historical location “Il Trappetello” in Monopoli, Apulia, for the conference “Material and matter:from artifice to nature” by Professor Franco Purini, promoted by Gazzotti and Schinco parquet, with the support of the professional orders of architects, engineers and surveyors of the Bari province.
Purini, a teacher of the architecture department Valle Giulia in Rome and director of the Italian pavilion at the recent Biennial Architecture Exhibition in Venice, opened the works with a suggestive definition of building: “not a simple system of elements, but a community of materials that contribute, collaborate, integrate and interact, just like individuals do, to preserve society itself”.
The speaker described the alchemic transition between nature and man: the former generates matter and gives it vital strength and vigor, determining its intrinsic features; man takes this heritage and turns it into material according to his rules and needs.
With the creation of the Web portal parquet.gazzotti.it and the organization of the international contest “Made of Wood”, Gazzotti is intensifying its dialog with designers, and the meeting in Apulia was another step in this trend.
