The furniture industry in Germany

2007 was a successful year for Germany furniture manufacturers with their 102 thousand employees. The turnover increased by 5 percent as compared to the previous year. This is mainly due to export, which balanced the negative pose of domestic consumption caused by the VAT increase. Furniture export recorded +16%, reaching a 45% share on production.
The number of current employees has slightly increased (0.6%).
2008 forecasts are quiet positive, especially for domestic consumption, whereas a stronger two-digit increase is expected for export.
