Vdm: a negative May for  German furniture industry

Also the month of May 2009 has been a negative one for the German furniture industry. According to the
statistic figures prepared by Vdm (furniture manufacturers’ association), the industry turnover on May 2009
recorded 1,191 billion euros (-9 percent compared to the same month of 2008). This is the trend for the different segments: office furniture -17.6 percent, home furniture (included upholstered) -8.9 percent, mattresses -9.6 percent.
It seems to be less serious kitchen furniture situation: the whole turnover decreased of 2 percent, while exports got a decrease of 1.4 percent.
