“We can only be disconcerted by the decision of Fiera di Rimini and we are ready to face this challenge and defend Xylexpo’s leadership by any means necessary”. There is no hesitation in the words by Ambrogio Delachi, president of Acimall, as he comments upon the announcement by Fiera di Rimini concerning the organization of an exhibition in open competition with Xylexpo, the biennial international exhibition of woodworking technology and supplies for the wood and furniture industry, scheduled from 4 to 8 May 2010 in Milan. Through forty years, the exhibition in Milan has been able to conquer global leadership and to establish itself as the most important industry event in even-numbered years, attracting more than 82 thousand visitors (51.5 percent from abroad) and over 850 exhibitors from all around the world, covering an exhibition surface of 75 thousand square meters. In addition, the trade show is organized by Cepra, the executive arm of Acimall, the Italian woodworking machinery and tools manufacturers’ Association, member of Confindustria, representing over 210 industry companies in Italy (virtually all woodworking technology manufacturers), which account for 91 percent of industry turnover in Italy and have represented the excellence of made-in-Italy production for more than 50 years all over the world.

A few weeks ago, Fiera di Rimini decided to put itself on a collision course with Xylexpo, planning an identical trade show ten days before the official opening of the exhibition in Milan. So, it’s Rimini versus Milan, the city that hosts prestigious exhibitions, especially in the industry of mechanical engineering!
“We have waited until now to comment officially upon this appalling decision – added Delachi – as we could hardly believe that such a proposal – immediately rejected by almost all Italian companies and international groups – could be seriously taken into consideration.In such a complex and difficult economic period – when each and every organization, institution and company should team up to defend an industry whose leadership is seriously threatened – we are forced to waste precious energy in order to fight back against decisions that are certainly not in the interest of “made in Italy”.
