Everything seems to indicate that the second edition of Sicam – to be held at Pordenone Fiere from Wednesday 20th to Saturday 23rd October 2010 – will be an event of great importance for the entire sector of supplies and components for the furniture industry.
There will be over 520 exhibitors; an excellent figure achieved in just two years, with all leading players present from every sector linked to furniture manufacturing. This 100 percent representation makes Sicam an exhaustive, fully-inclusive shop window, which alongside the highlights of big names, the colossus of the components and semi-finished products industry, welcomes small to medium-sized entities who create an extremely rich and varied offer and represent an irreplaceable patrimony.

“It is a genuine point of reference that is not just tied to the area, one of the top regions for Italian production, but it also poses as an observatory and location of international exchange”, added Giobbi commenting on the fact that as much as 24 percent of the exhibitors come from abroad, with a strong dominance of German companies (approximately half of the foreign contingent), followed by Austrian and Turkish enterprises.
This high participation has enabled us to add Pavilions 1 and 9 to the fair map this year. This means that Sicam 2010 will take up the entire surface area available at Pordenone Fiere. One month from the opening data, 14 thousand square metres have already been assigned, compared with last year’s figure of 9,500.
Such a rich shop window – and which is also set against a more favourable economic background – enables organisers to predict another success with regard to visitors, enough to repeat the 13,250 visitors arrived from 79 different countries for the debut of Sicam in 2009. The enrolments recorded via the online service on the website www.exposicam.com – which enabled thousands of operators to get their entry pass sent directly to their own address saving any hassle – clearly indicate that lots of people will be coming to Pordenone and show how much the Friuli city can now be considered one of the capitals of the global furniture industry.
SIDE-EVENTS
There will be no lack of events to complete the scenery designed by Sicam 2010.
At 3:30pm on Wednesday 20th October, Surteco leads discussion on the issue of “Innovative technology for edge preparation: laser technology and digital moulds”.
Thursday 21st October starts off at 9:30am with the conference organised by Federchimica-Avisa “Adhesives for wood and furniture: descriptions of product groups by chemical composition, application and type of textile, equipment and related issues”.
Friday 22nd October sees the turn of the convention organised by Futsu (Furniture trends update) which, through contributions from an enormous group of speakers, offers an entire day of discussion and debate on issues of particular interest in this furniture design and manufacturing season. The four specific sessions will deal with Export in China, Lean manufacturing, Eco-design, and Co-marketing. This event of a high scientific calibre has been planned by the University Consortium of Pordenone, the only university in Italy where you can find courses in engineering specifically applied to the woodwork and furniture sector.
Sicam will also welcome Material ConneXion®, a brand that needs no introductions, the largest centre for research and consultancy on innovative materials with offices in New York, Milan, Cologne, Bangkok and Daegu (Korea). Set up in New York in 1997, this “library” has gathered thousands of samples of innovative materials and production processes from all over the world, showing entrepreneurs, architects, and designers the best of what can be used today in furniture manufacturing.
