Emerson: module delivers enhanced safety capability for “Unidrive M”

Control Techniques, a business unit of Emerson Industrial Automation, has introduced a new safety-specific module to its “Unidrive M” family.

The “SI-Safety” module has been designed specifically to integrate with Control Techniques’ “Unidrive M600” and “M700” models, and increases machine productivity and functionality while adhering to the highest standards of safety.
The new module is approved by Tuv as meeting “SIL3”, the highest safety level attainable for industrial electrical components, as well as demonstrating compliance with recognised standards governing the safety of machinery and electrical systems.
SI-Safety” works to minimise production downtime by enabling a machine to slow-down or stop, removing the need to power-down the machine after interruption in conjunction with the end user’s safety procedures. End user safety is further enhanced through the introduction of “Safe Stop” and “Safe Operating Stop”, while machine operators will also benefit from “Safe Limited Speed” and “Safe Limited Position” functionality.
Full safe plc capabilities are unlocked via the dedicated “CTSafePro” programming environment, which allows users to combine elements to develop their own safety function blocks to meet the specific needs of more advanced applications.
