FederlegnoArredo and Forest Sharing: agreement for Italian wood

22/06/2021

Try to progressively implement forest planning and logging activities, creating value for the Italian woods, with particular attention to all those marginal territories currently not managed, the community of forest owners that promotes an active management of the wooded territory.

The forestry sector brings 0.08 percent to the national economy in terms of added value and our country takes only 15 percent of the annual forest growth rate with a European average of over 60 percent. Negative numbers that push the national industry to import 80 percent of the wood material from abroad: a paradox, considering that 36 percent of the Italian territory is covered by forests.

It is an important and necessary step towards the entire supply chain – underlined Angelo Luigi Marchetti and Marco Vidoni, respectively Assolegno’s president and Director in charge of the Sawmills group – especially in a moment like the present one, characterized by strong market tensions in the phase of supplying. This agreement is also a further step towards the creation of a broader project dedicated to defining an ‘Borsa Italiana del Legno’, a national marketplace that can support all the players interested in developing local supply chains“.
