FederlegnoArredo: “European protection for wood-furniture companies”

“Activate all the instruments provided by the European treaties to protect and help the wood industry which, given the imminent Russian ban on exporting logs to the European wood industries, will have to face serious problems that will aggravate an already very complicated situation, due to the lack of raw materials and the soaring prices“. FederlegnoArredo asks this with a letter sent by President Claudio Feltrin to the Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis after the same request was also made by eight European trade associations.

“The supply of raw materials has become increasingly complex: wooden packaging, pallets, panels are more and more rare commodities every day and companies are struggling to respect contracts and orders with customers. The entrepreneurs – explains FederlegnoArredo – are seriously worried about the next few months and many of them fear that they will have to stop production due to the impossibility of finding the raw material useful for continuing their activities. Russia’s decision will only aggravate an already very complex situation. We believe – concludes FederlegnoArredo – that only a coordinated response at European level can help our industry to overcome this critical moment. Obviously our Federation is at the disposal of the European institutions for a constructive discussion, aimed at finding a solution to protect a ‘industry worth 16 billion euros in exports”.
