ECWM12 returns to Dresden in 2026

The 12th European Conference on Wood Modification (ECWM12) will be held on 26–27 October 2026 in Dresden, Germany, where researchers, companies, and professionals in the modified wood sector will meet to discuss the latest technological innovations in wood modification. The event, organized by an international scientific committee and coordinated locally by Wolfram Scheiding, aims to strengthen collaboration between research and industry in a rapidly evolving field.

Founded in 2003, the ECWM conference will integrate the TMT Workshop series for the first time, traditionally hosted in Dresden, to eliminate overlaps and create a single European reference point for all wood-modification technologies. The program will cover thermal, chemical, and impregnation-based modifications, as well as emerging technologies such as microwave, plasma, and enzymatic treatments. Additional topics will include standards, testing methods, environmental issues, quality control, and market opportunities.

The scientific committee, composed of experts from universities and research centers in Germany, the United Kingdom, Portugal, the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Sweden, has officially opened the call for abstracts, with a deadline of 19 December 2025. Acceptance notifications are scheduled for 28 February 2026, while full papers must be submitted by 31 August 2026. Final registration closes on 30 September 2026.

Abstracts, which must follow the official template, should be submitted by email to wolfram.scheiding@ihd-dresden.de, specifying whether the contribution is intended as an oral presentation or a poster. The final conference program will be released in March 2026. Organizers expect a strong international participation to share knowledge and foster new collaborations in the field of wood modification.
