It was held from October 13 to 17 in Istanbul, at the Tuyap Centre, Woodprocessing exhibition dedicated to machines and tools for wood working, parallel to Intermob, exhibition dedicated to furniture supplies. The two fairs have allowed the visitor to have a complete view of the wood and counted a total of 859 companies and 61,500 visitors, of which 90 per cent coming from all over Turkey. This growth shows once again that the good performance of the event is mainly due to strong domestic demand, especially furniture.
From the point of view of the exhibitors, the Italian and German companies have exposed almost exclusively through local retailers. A large group of Turkish builders completed the exhibition offer of machines. The comments received from the Turkish retailers showed a general satisfaction.
The market is euphoric and sales maintained a stable trend. Some retailers are expanding in terms of size, with the opening of offices located in strategic places in Turkey, with the aim of having a more even distribution throughout the country.
The risk for the medium term is to find over-sized companies at a time when domestic demand will register the first physiological declines.
The views received by Italian companies showed instead a situation of contrasts: on the one hand large groups seeking to expand their network of resellers, who focus their business on the most renowned brands.
Small Italian companies that rely to a large retailer does not feel fully satisfied with the work of the dealer and judge the store very limited in relation to the scope and potential of the market.
Another criticism is that the reduced mark-up that the Italian manufacturer is able to obtain from the dealer. The latter is often argued that the pricing policy applied on the Turkish market should be revised downward, due to increasing competition from China and Turkey. The local builders show every year to advance, either from the point of view of market shares or from the point of view of the technological content of the machines.
