The preliminary data for 2024 demonstrate how the \u201cuncertainties\u201d that have long affected the actual effectiveness of the \u201cIndustry 5.0\u201d measures, along with the ongoing consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict\u2014combined with stagnation caused by the exceptional demand of previous years\u2014have impacted overall results.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"557\" data-end=\"790\">According to an initial report outlined by the Acimall Research Office, the Confindustria association representing companies in the sector, <strong data-start=\"697\" data-end=\"716\">2024 production<\/strong> stood at <strong data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"748\">2.43 billion euros<\/strong>, down <strong data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"770\">8.3 percent<\/strong> compared to 2023.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"792\" data-end=\"1087\">Both <strong data-start=\"797\" data-end=\"808\">exports<\/strong> (1.7 billion, down <strong data-start=\"828\" data-end=\"843\">7.8 percent<\/strong>) and <strong data-start=\"849\" data-end=\"868\">domestic demand<\/strong> (730 million, down <strong data-start=\"888\" data-end=\"903\">9.5 percent<\/strong>) declined, alongside a <strong data-start=\"927\" data-end=\"950\">collapse in imports<\/strong> (180 million, down <strong data-start=\"970\" data-end=\"986\">40.2 percent<\/strong>), which demonstrates how the Italian supply is still able to \u201cdominate\u201d the demand for technology.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1089\" data-end=\"1472\">This last figure, in fact, \u201csupports\u201d the <strong data-start=\"1131\" data-end=\"1148\">trade balance<\/strong> (1.52 billion euros, down <strong data-start=\"1175\" data-end=\"1190\">1.5 percent<\/strong> compared to the 2023 final balance), while <strong data-start=\"1234\" data-end=\"1258\">apparent consumption<\/strong> dropped to <strong data-start=\"1270\" data-end=\"1285\">910 million<\/strong>, a <strong data-start=\"1289\" data-end=\"1314\">17.9 percent decrease<\/strong> from the previous year. However, these figures still place Italy among the top countries in the global and European rankings for demand in wood technology.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1474\" data-end=\"2029\">&#8220;<em>The situation is certainly not positive<\/em>,&#8221; commented Acimall Director <strong>Dario Corbetta<\/strong>, &#8220;<em>and the sector is suffering from a reality that was first put on hold by the arrival of Covid and later by incentives that effectively postponed the industry&#8217;s structural problems for two years. This is a scenario whose contours are well known: a shortage of labor, delays in generational turnover, and all the challenges faced by mechanical manufacturing, not to mention the geopolitical tensions that have inevitably slowed exports to certain markets<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2031\" data-end=\"2048\"><strong data-start=\"2035\" data-end=\"2046\">EXPORTS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2050\" data-end=\"2722\">In this regard, it should be noted that in the first nine months of the year, the <strong data-start=\"2132\" data-end=\"2149\">United States<\/strong> (129 million, down <strong data-start=\"2169\" data-end=\"2184\">3.6 percent<\/strong> compared to the same period in 2023), <strong data-start=\"2223\" data-end=\"2233\">France<\/strong> (122 million, up <strong data-start=\"2251\" data-end=\"2265\">22 percent<\/strong>), and <strong data-start=\"2272\" data-end=\"2283\">Germany<\/strong> (92 million, down <strong data-start=\"2302\" data-end=\"2317\">1.3 percent<\/strong>) topped the list of Italy\u2019s best customers. They were followed by <strong data-start=\"2384\" data-end=\"2394\">Poland<\/strong> (74 million, down <strong data-start=\"2413\" data-end=\"2428\">5.4 percent<\/strong>), <strong data-start=\"2431\" data-end=\"2440\">Spain<\/strong> (56 million, up <strong data-start=\"2457\" data-end=\"2470\">7 percent<\/strong>), <strong data-start=\"2473\" data-end=\"2491\">United Kingdom<\/strong> (46 million, down <strong data-start=\"2510\" data-end=\"2526\">28.7 percent<\/strong>), <strong data-start=\"2529\" data-end=\"2538\">China<\/strong> (45 million, up <strong data-start=\"2555\" data-end=\"2571\">16.8 percent<\/strong>), <strong data-start=\"2574\" data-end=\"2584\">Sweden<\/strong> (38 million, down <strong data-start=\"2603\" data-end=\"2619\">11.5 percent<\/strong>), <strong data-start=\"2622\" data-end=\"2632\">Turkey<\/strong> (35 million, up <strong data-start=\"2649\" data-end=\"2665\">21.4 percent<\/strong>), and <strong data-start=\"2672\" data-end=\"2683\">Belgium<\/strong> (32 million, down <strong data-start=\"2702\" data-end=\"2718\">13.4 percent<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2724\" data-end=\"3327\">The trend of Italian exports to <strong data-start=\"2756\" data-end=\"2776\">China and Turkey<\/strong> is particularly interesting, as both have significantly grown their domestic wood machinery production in recent decades, becoming competitors to watch closely. \u201c\u2026<em>The fact that our manufacturers are able to further consolidate their presence in these markets demonstrates not only the quality of Italian technological offerings but also how the most advanced technologies truly make the difference. However, in the case of Turkey, we must also consider the possibility of triangulations towards other destinations<\/em>,\u201d added Director Corbetta.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"3329\" data-end=\"3835\">On a global scale, <strong data-start=\"3348\" data-end=\"3390\">Italy continues to play a leading role<\/strong> in market competitiveness. Looking at the ranking of the world\u2019s <strong data-start=\"3456\" data-end=\"3503\">top wood and furniture technology exporters<\/strong> for the period <strong data-start=\"3519\" data-end=\"3545\">January-September 2024<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"3547\" data-end=\"3556\">China<\/strong> remains in <strong data-start=\"3568\" data-end=\"3583\">first place<\/strong>, with exports worth <strong data-start=\"3604\" data-end=\"3627\">1.827 billion euros<\/strong>, up <strong data-start=\"3632\" data-end=\"3647\">7.2 percent<\/strong> compared to the same period in 2023. <strong data-start=\"3685\" data-end=\"3696\">Germany<\/strong> ranks <strong data-start=\"3703\" data-end=\"3713\">second<\/strong> (1.807 billion, down <strong data-start=\"3735\" data-end=\"3751\">12.4 percent<\/strong>), followed by <strong data-start=\"3766\" data-end=\"3775\">Italy<\/strong> in <strong data-start=\"3779\" data-end=\"3794\">third place<\/strong> (1.138 billion, down <strong data-start=\"3816\" data-end=\"3831\">7.6 percent<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"3837\" data-end=\"3854\"><strong data-start=\"3841\" data-end=\"3852\">IMPORTS<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"3856\" data-end=\"4276\">Regarding imports, at a global level, the United States was the largest customer for global suppliers, purchasing woodworking machinery and equipment from abroad worth <strong>1.782 billion euros<\/strong>, down 0.8 percent compared to the first nine months of 2023. Germany ranked second (635 million in foreign purchases, down 8.2 percent), followed by Canada (486 million, up 8.4 percent).<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"4278\" data-end=\"4546\">As for Italy\u2019s top suppliers in the same January-September 2024 period, Germany ranked first with 48 million euros (down 48.5 percent), followed by China (23 million, down 3.7 percent) and India (9 million, down 49.8 percent).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Italian wood processing and furniture manufacturing technology industry is still going through \u201ccomplex\u201d times.
