The industrial initiative of Novolegno spa (a subsidiary of Fantoni spa), founded 39 years ago and currently employs 117 people, is specialized in the production of Mdf panels for packaging fruit and vegetables, but currently no longer has the economic and market requirements to continue its business. After a progressive but inexorable change of distribution modes, in particular by the large-scale retailers, the economic conditions that had led to the decision to settle in Irpinia, have been missing for years&#8230;In fact, local timber is been diverted to incentive biomass energy plants. The important investments made then to differentiate production and for using more competitive raw materials, such as recycled wood, have not given the expected results due to the progressive deterioration of the market of packaging, where other materials were preferred, such as cardboard and plastic.
