Proposals of FederlegnoArredo for the Italian economy emerged from the press conference held today at the Press Club of Milan. The press conference was a chance to present economic data system for the 2011 wooden-furniture and advances on new projects of the federation’s activities.

The words of Roberto Snaidero<\/b>, president of FederlegnoArredo<\/b>, the federation that represents the entire industry of Italian wood-furniture, sound like a reflection on the results of one of the most important economic sectors of the Italian manufacturing, but also as a warning to the new government.<\/p>\n
The data, compiled and distributed by Centro Studi Cosmit \/FederlegnoArredo, preliminary results for the year 2011, show an industry that conquers foreign markets, but continues to suffer in the domestic market, held back by a vicious circle of low growth, low confidence and low spending power. \nThe <\/span>2011 <\/span>turnover <\/span>is in fact <\/span>dropped <\/span>to 32.4 <\/span>billion Euros, which <\/span>represents a decrease <\/span>of 3.3 <\/span>percent <\/span>compared to 2010<\/span>, when <\/span>the <\/span>industry was <\/span>already able <\/span>to recover some <\/span>losses <\/span>of the <\/span>2008-09 <\/span>biennium<\/span>. <\/span>The result <\/span>of this year<\/span>, <\/span>if confirmed<\/span>, <\/span>set out the <\/span>levels <\/span>below to those <\/span>of 2009<\/span>, <\/span>which is the <\/span>lowest point <\/span>since the beginning <\/span>of the economic crisis<\/span>. <\/span>There is however <\/span>an important difference <\/span>compared to <\/span>when the crisis <\/span>was <\/span>generalized for <\/span>all markets: the negative result <\/span>is mainly <\/span>generated by <\/span>an internal market <\/span>which plays <\/span>the role of<\/span>the sector <\/span>but <\/span>still <\/span>marked <\/span>positive changes <\/span>in foreign markets<\/span>. <\/span>Thus<\/span>, the decrease of <\/span>5 <\/span>percent <\/span>of <\/span>apparent <\/span>domestic consumption <\/span>of the entire <\/span>chain <\/span>undermines <\/span>export growth <\/span>of 5.1 <\/span>percent<\/span>, an increase which <\/span>brings the <\/span>total value <\/span>of <\/span>sales <\/span>to 12.2 <\/span>billion and <\/span>the trade balance <\/span>over <\/span>7 billion <\/span>Euros<\/span>. <\/span>Outstanding results if compared with <\/span>a situation of <\/span>international trade <\/span>still very <\/span>weak.<\/span><\/p>\n
