The event brought together industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the role of <strong>wood<\/strong> in sustainable construction and its economic and environmental benefits.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We must encourage short supply chains, enhance local wood, and reduce dependence on imports to strengthen the entire sector,&#8221; stated <strong>Claudio Giusti<\/strong>, president of Assolegno. He emphasized that <strong>wood<\/strong> not only reduces emissions by capturing <strong>CO\u2082<\/strong> through photosynthesis but is also a <strong>renewable<\/strong> and <strong>recyclable<\/strong> resource, making it a cornerstone of the <strong>circular economy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, titled <strong>\u201cThe contribution of Italian forests to the decarbonization of construction\u201d<\/strong>, highlighted the <strong>strategic role of wood<\/strong> in achieving European <strong>sustainability goals<\/strong>. With forests covering <strong>36%<\/strong> of Italy&#8217;s land, the country has significant untapped potential. Despite this, <strong>80%<\/strong> of the wood used in Italy is imported, mainly from Austria and Germany.<\/p>\n<p>Institutional representatives, including <strong>Vannia Gava<\/strong>, Italian Deputy Minister of Environment, and <strong>Maurizio Martina<\/strong>, Deputy Director-General of FAO, reiterated the importance of protecting forests and promoting <strong>bioarchitecture<\/strong> as a key solution for <strong>climate efficiency<\/strong> and <strong>territorial preservation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Industry experts such as <strong>Emanuele Ferraloro<\/strong> (Federcostruzioni) and <strong>Ornella Iuorio<\/strong> (Politecnico di Milano) stressed the need for collaboration between institutions, businesses, and professionals to accelerate the transition to <strong>sustainable construction<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>To further explore the <strong>potential of wood in green building<\/strong>, Assolegno has contributed to the <strong>LIFE BE-WoodEN<\/strong> project, launching a <strong>podcast<\/strong> dedicated to wood as the <strong>material of the future<\/strong>, covering topics such as <strong>urban regeneration, CO\u2082 reduction, and the circular economy<\/strong> over eight episodes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Decarbonization, bioarchitecture, circular economy, and forest valorization were the key topics of a conference organized by Assolegno of FederlegnoArredo and AFI (Italian Forestry Association).
