On 11 August, following the sudden worsening of an illness that had unfortunately become chronic, <strong>Luigi Alberti<\/strong> passed away. Just a few more days and, on 5 September, he would have celebrated his 94th birthday. Fully lucid until his final days, he had the privilege of being surrounded by his large family and of meeting the newest arrival in the Alberti family, his great-grandson Alessandro.<\/p>\n<p>Luigi Alberti was one of the founders of <strong>Acimall<\/strong>, the association of Italian manufacturers of woodworking machinery and equipment, and was unanimously called upon to chair its very first assembly, held on 26 February 1966, less than a month after Acimall was officially established on 29 January. It was a commitment he maintained over the years in a number of different roles, to the point that in 2005 he became the first person to receive the <strong>\u201cBenemerito di Acimall\u201d<\/strong> award for distinguished service to the association.<\/p>\n<p>Mechanics ran in Luigi Alberti\u2019s blood. Perhaps it could hardly have been otherwise, as he was the heir to a family that, from the mid-19th century, had operated a workshop in Carugate, in the province of Milan, producing all the tools that farmers and craftsmen might need at the time. At the beginning of the 20th century, Luigi\u2019s father founded <strong>Vittorio Alberti<\/strong> and began to focus increasingly on woodworking, a decision that paved the way for significant growth and eventually led to the construction of the Cernusco sul Naviglio plant during the years of the Second World War.<\/p>\n<p>Luigi Alberti joined the company at a very young age and, in 1957, when his father suddenly passed away, he took over the management of the business together with his sister Edoarda and his mother Maria. The production of conventional machines gradually gave way to solutions for <strong>drilling<\/strong>, a field in which Luigi saw major development potential. Simple machines became increasingly fast and sophisticated, eventually leading to the first electronic drilling machines, an area in which Alberti was a pioneer. He was the man behind the idea of the <strong>\u201cpoint-to-point\u201d<\/strong> machine, still regarded today as the cornerstone of flexible drilling as we know it, being the first to apply a revolutionary concept for the sector to his machines.<\/p>\n<p>These were years of strong growth for Vittorio Alberti, which for a long time maintained a leading position in terms of innovation and became a benchmark for many in the industry. Two decades of ideas and developments culminated in the brilliant intuition of combining \u201c5-axis\u201d technology with drilling, creating a unique and highly successful machine.<\/p>\n<p>Once again, Alberti was among the first to understand where the future was heading, driven by the conviction that there was little point in competing directly with the large groups in the industry, which were beginning to demonstrate their strength precisely in those years. Vittorio Alberti therefore continued to move decisively towards a high degree of specialisation, developing highly innovative, consistently \u201ctailor-made\u201d solutions that were greatly appreciated and sought after by some of the most prestigious names in the Italian and international furniture industry.<\/p>\n<p>The company changed, time passed and expertise continued to grow. The arrival of Luigi\u2019s sons Marco and Vittorio opened the way to new paths, adding insertion technology to drilling and marking important milestones in solving one of the long-standing challenges of industrial furniture production. Gradually, the company moved away from the idea of carrying out everything in-house, developing instead a strong network of expertise and suppliers that increasingly transformed it into a \u201cthink tank\u201d for woodworking: a company with a very strong engineering component covering the entire process.
