The meeting comes at a challenging time for the sector and involves two closely connected production systems. Austria is in fact the main source of sawn timber imported into Italy: in 2025, <strong>2.7 million cubic metres of softwood sawn timber<\/strong> entered the Italian market, accounting for <strong>58 per cent of total national imports<\/strong> of these products.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting, held in September on the eve of the International Wood Day, brought together representatives of the two supply chains with the aim of giving greater continuity to the dialogue between Italy and Austria and identifying common issues around which to build a shared roadmap. FederlegnoArredo took part in the Committee as the representative of the Italian supply chain, bringing the concerns of companies to the table and discussing the main challenges and opportunities for the sector with its Austrian counterpart. The work is also intended to support companies operating in the cross-border market, at a time marked by uncertainty in the global scenario and slowing demand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>The Joint Committee is an important opportunity for dialogue and discussion between the sector representatives of the two countries. In a complex international context, strengthening relations and working on common projects and challenges means creating better conditions to support the competitiveness of our companies and help them through the changes affecting the sector. The meeting in Klagenfurt allows us to give continuity to this process and lay the foundations for a shared roadmap for future projects<\/em>,\u201d commented <strong>Stefano Cor\u00e0<\/strong>, head of the FederlegnoArredo delegation to the Italian-Austrian Joint Committee.<\/p>\n<p>On the Austrian side, <strong>Michael Pfeifer<\/strong>, representing the primary wood processing industry, highlighted the value of cooperation between the two countries: \u201c<em>International cooperation and a long-term vision are at the heart of the process launched in Klagenfurt, aimed at strengthening cross-border relations in the timber sector between Italy and Austria. We particularly appreciated the dynamism and pragmatic approach shown by FederlegnoArredo during this first meeting with the new Italian delegation. It gives us confidence in the possibility of developing a roadmap of shared initiatives together. The sector faces numerous challenges, both at national and European level<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The next operational meeting is scheduled to take place in Vienna, where technical experts will work on defining the details of the cooperation. Institutional meetings will then continue in spring in Italy, in Vicenza, with the aim of giving continuity to the process launched in Klagenfurt.<\/p>\n<p>Representing <strong>FederlegnoArredo<\/strong>, alongside Director General <strong>Carlo Piemonte<\/strong> and Stefano Cor\u00e0, was a delegation comprising <strong>Stefano Ghinassi<\/strong> of Fedecomlegno and ETTF Vice President Softwood, <strong>Daniele Servadio<\/strong> of Assolegno and <strong>Nicola Lettera<\/strong> of Assoimballaggi.<\/p>\n<p>The presence of the three associations brought different perspectives from the Italian timber supply chain to the table. <strong>Fedecomlegno<\/strong> focused on market prospects and on Italian companies importing and distributing Austrian products, <strong>Assolegno<\/strong> addressed the needs of companies active in timber construction and the competitiveness of wood as a strategic material for the ecological transition, while <strong>Assoimballaggi<\/strong> focused on the challenges and prospects facing the wooden packaging sector.<\/p>\n<p>The Austrian delegation included <strong>Rainer Handl<\/strong>, Secretary of the Austrian Wood Industries Association and responsible for the sawmill, transport and logistics sectors, <strong>Georg Binder<\/strong>, Secretary General of proHolz Austria, <strong>Christoph Kulterer<\/strong>, owner of the Hasslacher Group and member of the EOS board, <strong>Michael Pfeifer<\/strong>, head of the Austrian-Italian delegation and owner of the Pfeifer Group, and <strong>Bruno Ruhdorfer<\/strong>, member of the Austrian delegation and Vice President of the Austrian Timber Trade Association.<\/p>\n<p>The programme was completed by a networking evening attended by FederlegnoArredo member companies, providing a further opportunity for companies and sector representatives from the two countries to meet and exchange views.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In Klagenfurt, during the Italian-Austrian Joint Committee, FederlegnoArredo met representatives of the Austrian timber supply chain to discuss the market, trade flows and prospects for cooperation between the two countries.
