Metabo will close two production sites in Germany

Metabo, the leading tool manufacturer, has announced that the two German production sites in Laichingen and Meppen will be closed.
In this way the production will be concentrated in the sites in Nürtingen and in Shanghai.

This operation is necessary for implementing a consolidation and cost reduction program.

Operating staff will be reduced: 80 operators in Laichingen and 220 in Meppen. The total number of operators – currently 1,600 – will be reduced to 1,100 within 2010, while the number of employees operating in foreign countries will increase ( up to 1,200 – currently 800).
