The “Due diligence” will change the wood market

FederlegnoArredo activates a “technical task force” to support the industry in the application of European Regulation no. 995/2010. From March 3, 2013 will come into force said regulation which will force all parties involved in the processing and distribution of wood, to respect certain rules to face the illegal trade in timber and derivated products.
FederlegnoArredo is involved, right from the start of the law, to inform the supply chain on the “Due Diligence” that will involve very specific obligations: manufacturers and distributors will have the ban toplacing on the EU market illegally harvested timber and products derived from it; the operators who enter for the first time on the EU market of wood products will be required to observe the “Due Diligence” so that the legal origin of the raw material is ascertained; in order to ensure the traceability of wood materials dealers will be required to keep a register with the names of their suppliers and customers.
“In order to give concrete support to all companies involved in the legislation, FederlegnoArredo promoted the consortium Conlegno as a “monitoring organization” (currently awaiting approval under Regulation 995/2010) − says Giampiero Paganoni, President of Fedecomlegno − and by beginning of the month has set up a task force of consultants to carry out the legislation.
