Conferenza Ischp 2013. “Trasformare” il legno

Five interesting keynote speeches have introduced the conference topics. Kennenth MacDicken, Fao Senior Forestry Officer, provided information about the Fao approach to the assessment and management of hardwood forest resources worldwide; Federico Ratti, Technical Director of Scm Group, presented  innovation in hardwood processing technologies;   Federico Giudicenadrea, Chief Executive Officer of Microtec, outlined innovations in quality and value optimization of logs. Interesting as well were the keynote speech on engineered wood structures with tropical hardwoods provided by Jan Willem van de Kuilen, Professor at Holzforschung Technische Universität München, and the keynote speech by Ed Pepke, Senior Timber Trade Analyst at Efi, about the global impact of the European union timber regulation on the hardwood markets.

 

“As regards the scientific aspect – states Stefano Berti, head of the Organising Committee – the conference registered a high level in the presentations (37 papers and 7 posters). Among the many interesting topics discussed, it is to remark the contribution on the knowledge of the influence of  forestry practices on wood properties of various hardwood species and the innovation connected to equipment able to characterise and classify the timber with non-destructive techniques, before machining.

Other remarkable presentations were about the new treatment techniques for added value to hardwood species and their influence on some characteristics such as colour and mechanical properties. Particular interest was aroused by the contributions focused on adhesives, both for the nature of the product and the glue properties, and on the tools for market and sustainable hardwood uses”.

FedericoRatti, technical director of the group, spoke at the Conference to present the contribution of Scm Group technological innovation in the field of secondary wood processing.
The speech entitled “Innovation inhardwoodprocessingtechnology −industrial productiontowardsflexibilityand digitalcrafting“ explained to an audience of scientists and researchers from all over the world development guidelines that are shaping the market and technologies: continuous quality improvement request on the finished product, increasing interaction between the productive and designers/architects, production technologies push towards production at one and with a lot more user friendly approach…these key concepts explained by the intervention of technical director Scm Group.

 

The conference ended with an interesting technical visit at Alpi company, where it was possible to see an industrial system to enhance the hardwood timber.
