Machine tools: growth in the 2Q 2014 (+14.4%)

In the second quarter of 2014, the index of orders for machine tools, developed by the Centre for Studies & Culture of company Ucimu-Sistemi per Produrre, has recorded an increase of 14.4 percent compared to the same period last year. The absolute value of the index stood at 96, still below the average set at 2010 =100.

The overall result was determined by the positive results collected from manufacturers both domestically and on the foreign market; despite that the level of investments planned by the Italian market is still low.

In particular, the index of domestic orders grew by 38.2 percent, to an absolute value of 91.2, supported by the introduction of the New Law Sabatini.

On the foreign front, the index of orders increased by 11.5 percent, for an absolute value of 96.6, thus confirming the recovery in consumption of machine tools in the main Italian foreign markets, already detected after the recession of 2013 by the export figures for the first quarter of 2014 (+2.1%).

According to the processing Ucimu on Istat data, the Eu countries are particularly active; sales grow, in fact, in Germany (+17.6%), France (+30.2%), Poland (+0.8%), the Uk (+42%), Spain (+12.9%). Sales are retreating, however, in China (16.3%), United States (-11%), Russia (-5.8%), India (-35.3%), Brazil (37.8%), Turkey (-7.5%).

On a semiannual basis, the index recorded an increase of 14.9 percent due to an increase in domestic orders index (+59.5%) and foreign (+7.8%).
