Sustainability, wood recycling and carbon storage are the key concepts for the future business of Egger – the Austrian group specializing in wood-based semifinished materials and panel – which have recently published their sustainability report. This annual document witnesses to the group’s commitment to a topic that is more and more important for businesses, especially today, as “environmental and energy issues” are not just trend topics, but a real necessity.

We are working constantly to optimize the use of materials and processes, to reduce the quantity of binders and synthetic resins required for each operation”, the group wrote in the sustainability report. “We have an intensive dialog with our partners to find alternative products with a lower and lower impact on the environment”.

THE FIGURES OF THE SUSTAINABILITY REPORT
The figures of Egger’s sustainability report are focused on optimization: recycling, renewable sources resulting into a reduction of the carbon footprint. 88 percent of the materials used by the Austrian company come from renewable sources, for a total amount of 5.7 tons of materials produced.
Using renewable raw materials and recycled wood – the company explains in the report – means making the best of the available resources and, especially in the long term, preventing supply chain issues and environmental risks”.

The report revolves around renewable sources both for materials and for energy. 75 percent of the fuels are renewable, with only 16 percent of carbon emissions coming from fossil fuels and a 2030 target to “reduce energy consumption by 10 percent”.

Sustainability is not just reducing your environmental impact, but also deploying initiatives for employees, offering new opportunities, better spaces and working conditions.
