Cefla Finishing, edge coating: the edge becomes an integral part of the panel’s value

In the panel finishing process, the edge is no longer a secondary detail. It is the point where aesthetic quality, product protection and design continuity must come together. This is why edge coating technologies are taking on an increasingly strategic role: they seal, even out, protect and enhance the finished product, while at the same time reducing manual operations, machine downtime and production complexity.

One example – they explain – is “Smartedge Agile”, designed to handle panels of different thicknesses without interrupting the production flow. The machine automatically adapts to the incoming workpiece, eliminating repetitive manual adjustments and reducing set-up times. This makes it particularly effective for batch-one, just-in-time production and contexts in which format variability is increasingly common.

The integration of edge coating and digital printing also makes it possible to reduce the complexity associated with managing pre-decorated edges, stock materials and colour variants. The decoration is applied when needed, in line, with greater design freedom and faster response times.
