India: new multi-billion dollar forest development program

The Wall Street Journal has recently reported that India has inaugurated a forest protection fund valued at 2.5 Us billion dollars, leading to establishment of a regulatory body aimed at enhancing the nation’s environmental status.
The money is to go into forest regeneration and management. An additional billion dollars is planned for forestry-related programs.
The Journal also stated that India is one of a handful of developing nations whose forest cover has increased over the last 20 years and that it is a positive factor in neutralizing greenhouse gas emissions.
