Delhiwood 2009

The first edition of Delhiwood – the international exhibition organized by Pda Trade fairs and sponsored by Eumabois – took place from 14th to 17th February, 2009 at Pragati Maidan exhibition center, New Delhi. The exhibition – dedicated to woodworking machinery, tools, accessories, semifinished products and components for the furniture industry – is held alternatively with Indiawood, scheduled in even years, in Bangalore.
The event – held in two halls covering a net surface of about 8,000 square meters – recorded a significant attendance level as to Italian companies (13 as a whole) participating through main local importers.
The exhibitors attending the event were 288 totally. If we consider that this is the first edition of Delhiwood we can say without any doubt that the exhibition recorded positive results in terms of exhibitors as well as visitors (13,000 according to the figures provided by the organizers). The feedback of Italian operators at the fair was generally good. Optimistic vision about the future of the local industry-oriented market was expressed also by the main importers.
Although manual wood processing is still a widespread tradition, the demand for technology from local companies has significantly increased during the last years. The main global competitors – led by Italy, Germany and China – can now rely on a potentially wider demand. In 2008 China outperformed Germany in terms of machinery export quota ranking second among the leading suppliers just after Italy.
In 2008 Italy export towards India reached 13.8 million euros, up by 7.6 percent as compared to 2007; China machinery export amounted to 10.6 million euros, recording a significant increase of almost 22.8 percent.
As to Germany export for 2008, there is not updated information but the situation should be positive as well. (p.b.)
