Pefc Italia 2007: summing up results.

It’s been an intense year for Pefc Italia (www.pefc.it). 643,847 hectares of certified forests are distributed in ten regions and independent provinces. This certified forestry area which has increased in terms of surface and number of certifications compared to 2006. More and more wood and paper processing companies have decided to apply for certification with 29 new certifications – from 61 to 90 – which means +47% chain-of-custody certifications. A brand new group certification has been introduced, consisting of 4 companies, which adds to an existing certification of nine companies. The Italian certification scheme for sustainable forest management has been recognized in October 2004 worldwide, therefore it will be revised in 5 years, in 2009.
