Egger acquires Lenocart and strengthens its recycling network in Italy

The Austrian group has acquired 100 per cent of the Milan-based company, which specialises in the collection and transport of recyclable materials. The transaction will strengthen the supply of recycled wood to EGGER’s Caorso plant and expand the Timberpak network in Italy.

EGGER is strengthening its presence in wood recycling in Italy with the acquisition of 100 per cent of Lenocart S.r.l., a company based in the Milan metropolitan area and active in the collection, trading and transport of recyclable and waste materials.

The transaction, completed on 28 July, allows the Austrian group to expand its collection network in one of Italy’s main economic areas and to consolidate access to recycled wood for its production activities.

Lenocart has worked with EGGER for many years and, following the acquisition, will become part of the group’s international Timberpak network, which manages the collection and recovery of post-consumer wood. At Timberpak sites, the material is collected, sorted and pre-shredded before being transported to EGGER plants for further processing.

The Lenocart site currently collects around 10,000 tonnes of recycled wood per year and will contribute in particular to supplying EGGER’s plant in Caorso, where particleboard is produced using 100 per cent recycled wood.

“The acquisition of Lenocart is an important step in strengthening our recycling network in Italy,” said Giuseppe Conti, Plant Director of EGGER’s Caorso plant and responsible for wood purchasing. “The Milan region offers significant potential for the collection of recycled wood. Together with the experienced Lenocart team, we aim to further develop this activity and contribute to a more circular use of resources.”

The acquisition also includes Lenocart’s transport fleet, allowing collection activities to be more closely integrated with logistics operations. Operational management of the company will remain in the hands of Dario Lenoci, whose family founded the business in the 1950s.

The company’s history dates back to the 1950s, when Nicola Lenoci began collecting waste paper and textiles on the streets of Milan using a handcart. Together with his sons Dario, Elio and Walter, he gradually developed the business into a company specialising in the collection, trading and transport of materials intended for recovery.

With the acquisition of Lenocart, EGGER is continuing to expand its international wood collection and recycling network, while strengthening the link between the local availability of secondary raw materials and the production of wood-based panels made from recycled material.
