Research Institute of Construction and Economy released “Forecast of construction investment based on Construction Economy Models” on fiscal year 2011. In the report, it estimates Japan’s housing starts in fiscal year 2011 (from April 2011 to March 2012) to be about 852,000 units (up 4 percent from the preceding fiscal year, excluding temporary houses). It expects that those in the first half of the fiscal year will be sluggish due to the influence of the great earthquake; however, they will recover in the latter half.
