The theme dominating the 18th Homag Treff in Schopfloch closed last 1st October, was competence in plant engineering and woodworking shop technology. Over an area encompassing 8,000 square metres, Homag showcased a comprehensive and unique portfolio of products and services.
Visitors flocked from every continent to attend the event, which this year featured over 30 machines and plants, including a whole raft of innovations.
Homag supplied the very best of efficient furniture production to suit every batch size. This was best illustrated at this year’s Homag Treff by a highly flexible plant design for batch size 1 and small production runs with a 48-slot edging magazine, six grooving units and automatic 8-slot tool changer as well as automatic feed and stacking functions. The feed rate for longitudinal processing is 30 meters/minute and for transverse processing 25 meters/minute.
Also on show was a newly developed laminating technology by the name of “reacTec”. This uses a new type of hot-melt glue with no open time.
With its new “K 350” edge bander unveiled for the very first time at the Homag Treff, Homag is offering a top-quality entry-level machine for batch size 1 production, closing what was previously a gap in its product range. The rolling block link chain used in this machine ensures pin-point transport precision for all workpieces, as well processing to an exceptional degree of dimensional and repeat accuracy.
The plant is equipped with the new workpiece infeed system “WZ14”, which guarantees dimensional and angular accuracy at feed rates of up to 25 meters/minute.
The new “Mmr” software which is already running in a number of successful pilot projects also took pride of place at the Homag Treff. “Mmr” ensures greater production transparency, as it is able to systematically acquire and evaluate machine data. To allow users to manufacture their own laser-capable edges, Homag has developed an edge pre-coating machine, the “Kbe 100”, which has now been unveiled. This new development allows conventional edge bands to be prepared for processing with laserTec by being coated with a special adhesive, dried, cooled and then coiled again.
Visitors to the exhibited processing centres had the opportunity to appraise a range of different functional features, such as production cell “Baz 722” with automatic feed. This highly efficient machine provides a perfect combination of 5-axis processing and edge banding, permitting the simultaneous processing of two different doors.
A major focal emphasis for Homag is its woodworking shop range. With its “Practive” machines and systems, Homag offers smart, economical solutions catering to joiners and cabinetmakers. New features showcased for this segment at the in-house exhibition included the new gantry processing centre “Bmg 600”. The “big brother” of the highly successful model “Bmg 500” unveiled at the last Ligna offers a processing height of 500 m including clamping systems due to its 5-axis fork head, and is suitable for processing 3D workpieces. It is constructed using the patented material “SorbTech©”, whose high weight and vibration-absorbing properties make for an excellent standard of processing quality and up to 20 per cent improved tool service life.
Homag has used the occasion of its 50-year company jubilee to launch two edition machines, both of which were also on show at the exhibition. With its cnc processing centre “Bof 211”, Homag was demonstrating the ease of entry into the world of “real” 5-axis technology, while its other edition model, the “Kal 210” edge bander, is a fully automatic machine with truly universal application scope.
