ETML (European tool-machine language) is revolutionizing the woodworking industry by introducing a standardized, cross-manufacturer language for tools and machines. Initiated by Eumabois and supported by Vdma, ETML has been jointly developed and implemented by leading European companies, including Ake, Biesse, Jso, Ima Schelling, Kohnle, Holz-Her, Homag powered by tapio, Leitz, Leuco, Scm, and Weinig.
Unlike proprietary systems, that limit data exchange to a single manufacturer’s ecosystem, ETML enables seamless communication between tools, machines and software platforms from different brands. It ensures consistent, verified and secure tools data across the entire lifecycle, from initial setup to regrinding and reuse.
At the heart of the system is “Smart Cloud”, a shared platform where verified tools data can be uploaded, managed and downloaded directly to machines. A unique serial number is assigned to each ETML-compliant tool, enabling precise identification, efficient machine setup and full integration into digital workflows.
“ETML is not just a standard: it’s a strategic shift toward full interoperability and transparency in woodworking production. It unlocks new efficiencies and lays the foundation for digital business models across our industry”, commented Gian Luca Fariselli, Head of ETML Marketing Group.
Among the “key benefits” ETML offers faster and safer machine/tool setup; up-to-date tools data, even after sharpening; reduced human error and downtime; basis for new digital services and business models; secure, standardized data infrastructure across manufacturers. ETML is already in use by the listed partner companies and is freely accessible to all Eumabois members, both direct and through national associations such as Vdma, Acimall or other European affiliated associations.
You will find the ETML booth in the Vdma Area, at Ligna.FutureSquare (hall 12).
