This was explained by Emanuele Orsini, president of FederlegnoArredo, during the press conference to present the Milan furniture fair, Salone del Mobile.Milano held on February 14th at the Triennale.
After the due exhortation on Italian know-how and on the innovation-industry-vision triad, he stressed the numbers. Not those of the Salone, but those of the wood/furniture sector. These are important numbers, of course we know them, but it does not hurt to update them: eighty thousand companies represent 16.5 percent of the Italian industrial chain and the turnover of forty two thousand billion euro contributes to five percent of the national Gdp. The growth in the previous year was 3.1 percent and export is fifty percent.
These numbers give a different interpretative key to the most significant international event: the Salone is “its businesses”, those that exhibit and those that are not present, but indispensable. And the word that has been added this year to the “Manifesto” of “Salone del mobile” is talent: creative talent, innovative talent, but at the same weight, financial and business talent.
The invention that pertains to the design component is summarized in the value of design: Davide Rampello has well understood it with the installation “De-Signo” that the Salone del Mobile will dedicate to Leonardo, five hundred years after his death. The culture of Italian design before and after Leonardo will be an evocative tale of the genius of Vinci and of its relationship with the contemporary Italian project.
