Innovation and Functionality: Cefla Finishing’s New Solutions

Cefla presents a range of industrial finishing technologies focused on efficiency, automation, and sustainability. The solutions span from roller coating to digital printing, robotic painting to mercury-free UV curing, innovations designed to address the real challenges of modern production.

In a constantly evolving sector where customization and efficiency have become essential priorities, Cefla Finishing – the business unit of the Cefla Group specializing in the design and construction of industrial finishing machines and systems – introduces a series of technologies developed to tackle everyday operational challenges. The proposed solutions aim to optimize production processes, reduce waste, and improve sustainability, offering practical responses to market needs.

FAST COLOR CHANGE: “EASY FCS”

The “Easy FCS” system significantly reduces color change times in spray coating systems, going—from what Cefla explained—from three to five minutes to less than thirty seconds. This cut leads to a reduction in catalyzed paint and detergent consumption by up to 75%. Mixing the product directly on the spray-gun arm optimizes system use and minimizes waste. “Easy FCS” is particularly suitable for production with frequent color changes, such as customized or small batch manufacturing.

VERSATILE ROLLER APPLICATION: “SMARTCOATER PRO”

“Smartcoater Pro” is a roller coater designed to handle variations in format, thickness, and flatness. Equipped with a floating head with pneumatic control and a four-screw lifting system, it ensures greater stability and consistent quality. Automatic belt centering adjustments and the semi-automatic roller cleaning system improve operational ergonomics and reduce downtime. It is compatible with water-based or 100% UV solid coatings and suitable for flat surfaces, including delicate materials like PMMA (Polymethyl methacrylate, commonly known as Plexiglass or acrylic glass).

AUTOMATED EDGE COATING: “SMARTEDGE LOTTO 1”

“Smartedge Lotto 1” addresses the challenge of coating edges of varying thickness automatically. The patented “Edge&Go” technology allows the transition from one panel to another without manual setup adjustments, maintaining consistent quality and reducing processing time. Designed for batch size 1 production, it offers an alternative to manual processing, with benefits in productivity and labor reduction. Compatible with 100% acrylic UV coatings, it includes sanding units for radiused edges and ensures precise control of applied product, contributing to scrap reduction to below 1%.

SIMPLIFIED ROBOT PROGRAMMING: “T-MATE”

“T-Mate” simplifies the integration of anthropomorphic robots into painting lines by using the logic and interfaces of the “iGiotto” environment, the group explains. This solution allows users to create and modify recipes without manual adjustments on the robot arm, significantly reducing the need for highly specialized operators. The system also enables operators to “teach” the robot directly on a piece how to paint it, capturing and saving the ideal parameters with the press of a button. Compatible with Fanuc robots, it can be integrated into both new and existing lines, improving repeatability, reducing human error, and optimizing paint usage.

MERCURY-FREE UV CURING: “UV MERCURY-FREE”

In response to the European ban on the use of mercury in UV lamps, Cefla introduces the “UV Mercury-Free” system, which maintains the performance of traditional UV ovens while eliminating mercury entirely. The ban, introduced by the European Union for environmental and energy reasons, prohibits the marketing of certain UV lamps, particularly those containing mercury. It primarily affects fluorescent lamps and leads to their replacement with more efficient alternatives such as LED technology.

“This solution,” Cefla states, “allows companies to comply with regulations without changing production cycles or the coatings currently in use, providing a real alternative to mercury lamps without compromising operator safety.”

MULTI-MATERIAL DIGITAL PRINTING: “J-PRINT MP”

“J-Print MP” is a multi-pass solution designed for in-line integration, capable of working on a variety of materials, including MDF, fiber cement, plastic, steel, and aluminum. This technology offers a print area extendable up to three by six meters and reaches productivity levels of up to 400 square meters per hour, while maintaining high precision thanks to linear motors and high-resolution optical encoders. The machine allows the use of inks other than those supplied by the manufacturer, pending validation—overcoming one of the limitations of traditional digital solutions.

LAMINATION OF PROFILES AND PANELS: DÜSPOHL

Specialized in solutions for panel lamination and profile wrapping, Düspohl, a Cefla company based in Germany, offers high-precision technologies for applying decorative films to wood, PVC, aluminum, and composite surfaces. Its lines ensure consistent quality, high flexibility, and reduced setup times thanks to advanced automation systems. The machines are built to last, easily integrate into existing lines, and are configurable to meet specific production needs.

Among Düspohl’s many technologies, the new panel lamination system stands out—completing the product range with an efficient entry-level system also suitable for low production volumes. With increasing attention to energy efficiency and waste reduction, Düspohl also stands out for its commitment to sustainable, reliable, and future-oriented lamination solutions.
