Eudr: FederlegnoArredo signs joint request from European federations on “stop the clock”

FederlegnoArredo also joins the main European Federations of the wood-furniture supply chain in the open statement regarding the recent amendments proposed by the European Commission to the EU Deforestation Regulation (as we reported here).

The federation has joined the call to introduce a “suspension” mechanism (“stop the clock”) that “would allow for a thorough review of the Regulation, simplifying its requirements and making them truly feasible for all companies, particularly for small and medium-sized ones, while at the same time safeguarding our shared goal of combating deforestation“.

FederlegnoArredo also underlined that “…further amendments or reopenings of the dossier could entail the risk of a return to the Regulation’s original version, characterized by even more restrictive and difficult-to-apply provisions, with potentially very negative effects on the entire European wood-furniture supply chain.
The effectiveness of any European legislative framework – commented Claudio Feltrin, President of FederlegnoArredo – depends on its practicality, legal clarity, and consistency. The proposed amendments, and the extremely tight implementation schedule, risk undermining the Regulation’s actual applicability and placing our companies in an unsustainable position of uncertainty.
We therefore call on the Italian Government
, concluded Feltrin, to continue representing these concerns before the European institutions, so that a clear, coherent, and sustainable regulatory framework for the entire wood-furniture supply chain is ensured, while at the same time protecting competitiveness, investment, and employment. Environmental protection and industrial competitiveness must move forward together: only in this way will it be possible to ensure a truly sustainable transition“.
