Rubner celebrates 100 years and invests €42 million in Italy

The Rubner Group is celebrating the centenary of the establishment of its first sawmill in Chienes, South Tyrol, in 2026. Founded in 1926 by Josef Rubner Senior, the company has grown into an international group operating across the entire wood supply chain, with turnover of around €400 million, 1,500 employees and 18 locations across Europe.

Over the past two years, Rubner has invested €42 million in its Italian production sites, focusing on the facilities in Chienes, Bressanone and Valdaora. The resources have been allocated to increasing production capacity, technological innovation and improving working environments.

Chienes is home to Rubner Türen, which specialises in the production of wooden doors, while Bressanone hosts Rubner Grandi Strutture in Legno, active in the design and construction of large-scale architectural projects. Valdaora is home to Nordpan, which produces solid wood panels.

“The centenary is an opportunity to tell the story of a journey built on a constant ability to evolve,” said Peter Rubner, President of the Group. “These investments confirm our intention to retain a strategic manufacturing asset in Italy, strengthening our ties with the local area and enhancing our international competitiveness.”

From its original sawmill, Rubner has progressively expanded its activities, from the production of doors and windows to timber houses, glulam and solid wood panels, as well as large engineered timber structures. Today, the Group integrates raw material selection, processing, design and construction, providing solutions for residential, public and commercial buildings.

Sustainability supports this industrial model through the use of certified raw materials, the recovery of processing waste and the generation of energy from renewable sources. At the Rubner Holzindustrie plant, for example, residues are used to fuel an 8 MW biomass system, alongside a 2.4 MWp photovoltaic installation.
